Comment on new report about mental health problems in young people aged 11 to 14.
Katharine Sacks-Jones, Director of Agenda and co-chair of the Department of Health’s Women’s Mental Health Taskforce says:
“New research showing that one in four girls say they experience emotional problems is yet more evidence of a growing mental health crisis among girls and young women.
“Although the drivers of mental ill health are complicated, we can’t ignore the fact that poor mental health among women and girls is often closely linked to violence and abuse.
“The Government and health service need to take urgent action, investing in services in schools and the community that take into account girls’ particular experiences and the trauma many have faced.”
